Jackson accepted his first teaching position at Kent School in Kent, CT shortly after graduating in December 2016 from Western Connecticut State University’s intensive jazz studies performance program. While he continues to teach at Kent, he also quickly branched out and began teaching at several other locations including Bearclaw’s Academy of Music. Jackson has taught many private upright bass, electric bass, guitar, voice, ukulele, and beginner keyboard lessons on an increasing basis in the past two years. In addition to private lessons, Jackson also runs band rehearsals at some of his teaching locations and assists on an as-needed basis in various ensembles.
Jackson has been performing, writing, recording, assembling original bands, and learning songs his whole life and started playing paid gigs before he was a teenager. He has performed Brahm’s Requiem with his chorus at Western and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra to a crowd of over 5,000, and on the upright bass performed with the great jazz pianist Orrin Evans. Since graduating he has also performed with Doug Munro of SUNY Purchase, and plays gigs at country clubs, schools, and other venues on a regular basis. While he is still mostly or entirely self-taught regarding certain instruments, Jackson has studied with Dave Ruffels (upright bass) Atla DeChamplain (jazz voice), Tippan Phasuk (pop/jazz voice), Evan Marien (audio production and electric bass), and Robert Bubby Lewis (electric bass).
